We've witnessed 11 million Syrians flee for their lives.
But only 17,000 of these innocent civilians have been resettled in other countries. And every hour of every day, 50 more Syrian families are forced to leave their homes and livelihoods behind.
Looking for safety is only the first step. Resettled refugees are forced to start over in a foreign country, often unaware of the language, customs, and geography. Many of these vulnerable people are women and children.
Our country has a proud history of welcoming refugees of all races, religions, and nations. Now is not the time to leave them on their own.We must step up efforts to help refugees resettle. We're calling on global leaders to:
- increase global humanitarian aid by 30% in the year to come,
- create resettlement opportunities for 10% of the world's refugees over the next 3 years, and
- create job opportunities for refugees, so they can become independent members of their new communities.
