Tell the Presidential Contenders: Don't Attack Social Security and Medicare!

  • par: NCPSSM
  • destinataire: Governor Christie and Senators Paul, Rubio, and Cruz
Chris Christie is the latest in a long line of Republican presidential contenders looking to grab support from far right conservatives by promising to make massive, devastating cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

Christie recently has been hitting the campaign trail, talking about plans to cut $1 trillion (yes, you read that number right) from generations of Americans who will depend on—and are paying into—Social Security and Medicare.

Senators Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio have also been public in their support for Senator Rand Paul's plan to cut benefits, rolling back Cost of Living Adjustments (COLAs) and turning Medicare into "Coupon Care."

Senator Paul himself has called Social Security a "Ponzi scheme."

These plans to slash earned benefits run counter to what a majority of Americans—no matter their political party—believe: that Social Security and Medicare are not welfare programs, nor should they be.

Christie, Paul, Rubio and Cruz's appeals to a small segment of conservatives is setting a dangerous precedent for the upcoming election.

Take action today: Send a message to the presidential contenders that it's time to run a campaign focused on what the American people want and need, NOT the demands of the far right fringe!
Dear Governor Christie and Senators Paul, Rubio and Cruz,

Recently you've been speaking about your support for programs and plans that would make large, devastating cuts to Social Security and Medicare.

Plans to slash these programs are counter to what a majority of Americans—no matter their political party—believe: that Social Security and Medicare are not welfare programs, nor should they be. They are vital programs that hard working Americans have paid into, and should be protected from budget cuts now and in the future.

[Your comment will be added here]

Please, as the election cycle gears up, stop the dangerous rhetoric around slashing, privatizing and otherwise cutting Social Security and Medicare, and start listening to what the average American supports.

Sincerely,
