South Korea: Don't Bury Live Animals to Control Disease!

In a misguided attempt to control an outbreak of Foot and Mouth Disease, the Republic of Korea has culled approximately one million farm animals, at least 90 percent of which were reportedly buried alive.

Burying an animal alive is unspeakably cruel. Korea is part of the World Organisation for Animal Health (OIE), and live burial is against their Guidelines on the Killing of Animals for Disease Control Purposes.

According to a report from the Korean government, another million animals could still be killed. Help us stand against this cruelty today!

Tell the U.S. ambassador to Korea Kathleen Stephens to request an immediate stop to this outrageous cull and suggest vaccination as a more humane way to handle Foot and Mouth Disease.

**UPDATE 1/24/11: New reports state approximately 4 million animals have been buried alive. Help stop these deaths by signing the petition!
