Murdering Abortion Doctors is NOT "Justifiable Homicide"

South Dakota may have killed their "justifiable homicide" bill that many fear opens a legal loophole that would allow the killing of abortion doctors. But the trend is spreading -- Nebraska and now Iowa have introduced their own bills with even stronger language.

It's not just pro-choicers who are concerned. Law enforcement in Nebraska warns their bill could lead to violence. It's not an abstract fear -- in the past people convicted of murdering abortion doctors have tried to use the "justifiable homicide" argument in court.

Lawmakers who introduced the bill are insisting that they're not legalizing the murder of abortion doctors. But their real objective is just as sinister: Giving rights to fetuses so as to take away rights from women.

These attacks on women must stop. Tell legislators in Nebraska and Iowa to oppose and shelve "justifiable homicide" bills.
Dear [Decision Maker],

I am appalled at attempts to deny women's rights and put abortion doctors lives in danger. Please oppose any bills that expand the "justifiable homicide" defense to include the protection of a fetus.

No matter what lawmakers say, this bill is a Pandora's box that women's rights groups and law enforcement worry could incite people to kill doctors and get away with it.

Beyond that, it is unconscionable to give rights to fetuses in order to take them away from women. Stop the attacks on women's rights and protect all doctors in your state. Oppose any bill that would allow the "justifiable homicide" defense in killings to protect a fetus.
