Get 'forever chemicals' out of our water!

Despite being linked to cancer, birth defects and other serious health issues, the U.S. currently has no enforceable limits on PFAS — also known as 'forever chemicals' — in our water supply.

Manufacturers use PFAS to make stain-resistant fabrics, nonstick cookware, food packaging and hundreds of other products. These toxic compounds seep into water from factories, landfills and other sources, and don't easily break down — it's estimated that 97 percent of Americans have PFAS in their bodies.

Both the House of Representatives and the White House support legislation to set a federal drinking water standard for toxic chemicals, as well as limit industrial discharge and provide funding for water treatment.

But now we need the Senate to act. Having drinking water free of dangerous levels of contaminants should be a priority for all Senators. Please ask your Senators to do their part and back legislation that protects families from these toxic chemicals.

I'm asking for your help to protect my family from exposure to hazardous PFAS chemicals.  Per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a group of toxic chemicals linked to cancer, birth defects and other serious health problems. They're called 'forever chemicals' because they don't easily break down -- 97% of Americans have measurable levels in their blood. However, there are no enforceable limits on PFAS in our drinking water, putting my family at great risk.

There is strong momentum for you to take action on PFAS right now. The Clean Water Standards for PFAS Act (S.1907) would limit the amount of industrial PFAS discharged into our waterways. And the House of Representatives just passed bipartisan legislation (HR 2467) that would set a new federal drinking water standard for PFAS, as well as limit industrial discharge and provide funding for water treatment.

Please do all you can to pass legislation that limits my family's exposure to PFAS in our water and the environment. I'll be watching what the Senate does on this important health issue.
