India: Protect Camels Before It's Too Late!

The camel, which was once an unmistakable part of India's culture and history, is now dying out faster every year. In the last decade, the camel population has plummeted -- and unless the government acts fast, the species could soon be gone forever.

The decline has been caused by several factors. As grazing land becomes more and more scarce, camels are being exported to the slaughterhouses in Uttar Pradesh. Some are even smuggled into Bangladesh, where they are killed en masse for their meat and skin.

Camels are a vital part of India's heritage, particularly in the state of Rajasthan. Luckily, there might be hope -- Rajasthan is contemplating passing a law that would make it a crime punishable by prison time to slaughter or smuggle a camel.

Sign the petition to encourage the Indian government to expand the proposed law to protect camels throughout the entire country before it's too late!
