We demand that Disney/ABC cease providing ultra-right wing hate radio talk show host Michael Savage a platform for spewing hatred and bigotry.
"The Savage Nation", hosted by Michael Savage, is "an unbroken stream of hate and chauvinism directed against women, people of color, liberals, immigrants and in particular people of Middle Eastern heritage and people of the Muslim faith." Michael Savage has demonstrated his contempt for the boundaries of civil discourse, again and again, ranging from the following comment about school age volunteers distributing sandwiches to the homeless:
"The girls from Branson can go in and maybe get raped ... because they seem to like the excitement of it. There's always the thrill and possibility they'll be raped in a Dumpster while giving out a turkey sandwich." (source: http://www.sfbg.com/News/34/51/51dissb.html);
to calling marchers in gay pride parades the "brown shirts of the modern era." (Julie Foster, WorldNetDaily, January 21st, 2001);
to threatening boycott organizers with bodily harm: "if they should succeed in driving me away from radio [I will] release their names and addresses", and not be responsible for the consequences: "if you harm me, I pray that no harm comes to you, but I can't guarantee that it won't." Savage is only the worst manifestation of policies that create a completely unbalanced radio programming environment that is almost without any "liberal" voices at all.
Therefore, we demand that Disney/ABC immediately and unconditionally terminate its contract with him, and pledge to boycott all Disney/ABC products and services until such time as it has terminated Savage's contract, and restored balance to the airwaves of the radio stations it controls.
