Dear BBC Scotland & Wall To Wall Media,
I, Sean Andrew, the petition holder & We, the undersigned kindly ask that BBC Scotland & Wall to Wall Media, formerly Shed Media revive our beloved weekly prime-time school drama series Waterloo Road which originally ran from 2006-2015.
Six years have now passed since the last ever episode ended & still there have been no plans for a revival.
From 2006-2015, every week it was always an absolute pleasure to sit down & watch Waterloo Road, television's best ever classroom drama series featuring everything from teenage pregnancy to staff publicly airing their private business in the corridors where all the kids could hear them.
It was a show like no other because it always featured stuff that just wouldn't happen in real life such as head teacher Rachel Mason being revealed as a prostitute & a glass explosion on the last day of term & a gun at the school on the first day back in the following series & that is exactly what made it so entertaining & interesting to watch.
To this day, I still enjoy watching classic episodes of all ten series on the BBCi player & I absolutely show no sign of getting fed up with it despite them being repeats considering there have been no new series since 2015.
Whether it was the original Rochdale set or in the newer Greenock set, the quality, entertainment & excitement of the drama remained the same & characters such as Jack Rimmer, Tom Clarkson & Grantly Budgen soon became a household name.
Some of my favourite characters included head teacher Rachel Mason who was into absolutely everything from taking two pupils to their father's funeral & attending the court trial of a pupil whose mother was accused of murder but soon turned out to be the pupil herself to rescuing a pupil from a caravan on her birthday where her father was going to kill them both in a gas explosion to spite her mother who obviously divorce him & taking a class on a trip to a man's prison, Barry Barry who just thought he was everything & was good at manipulating people & later acting head teacher Christine Mulgrew whose alcoholism saw her walking out of the school in handcuffs after assaulting a police officer whilst the rest of the kids looked on.
Even though both Rochdale & Greenock sets have now been demolished, I think I may have finally found the perfect filming location for a revived series of Waterloo Road, the former Parklands High School in the Speke area of Liverpool, it has quite a nice scenery & backdrop & I think that would be just perfect for the revival of this much loved & much missed show.
Now that I have found an ideal new filming location for a new series, please don't keep Waterloo Road off the airwaves forever!
If this building has been demolished, I am still searching schools, academies & colleges across the UK whether they are abandoned or in current use as I am pretty sure that at least one of them would suit the filming of a revived Waterloo Road perfectly.
I will inform you in due course of potential filming locations which I have found once this petition has gained a reasonable amount of signatures.
Axing the programme simply just to freshen up the TV schedules is just simply not good enough because myself & all other signatories on this petition absolutely adored the show & we long for you to bring it back, & with a potential new filming location having been found for you, there is now no excuse not to bring it back.
We pay tv license for decent quality BBC programming & we expect nothing but the best from you in return.
