Impose the Maximum Sentence on the Man Who Beat a Dog on Camera in Sterling Heights

My name is Eric, and I run I Love Every Dog. I am writing because a dog in Sterling Heights, Michigan, was allegedly hit with a leash three times and struck in the face about six times, and the person charged may walk away with one of the lightest outcomes the law allows.

According to local reporting, the incident happened on February 20, 2026, near 15 Mile Road and Van Dyke Avenue. Bradley Allen was originally charged with felony torturing of an animal. On October 8, Judge Eric D. Shepherd of the 41A District Court found the evidence insufficient for the felony and dismissed it. Mr. Allen then pleaded no contest to a single misdemeanor count of animal cruelty, which carries up to 93 days.

That felony ruling is made. But one decision is still ahead of us. Sentencing is set for 9:00 a.m. on November 23, 2026, before Judge Shepherd. The court can still order the full 93 days, meaningful fines, and conditions that protect other animals.

Judge Shepherd, I am asking you to impose the maximum jail term allowed, and to add every condition the law permits: a ban on owning or living with animals, mandatory counseling, and a prohibition on walking or caring for any dog. Mr. Allen's two dogs, Winnie and Kilo, have already been forfeited and adopted. Please make sure no other dog ends up in his care.

The Macomb County Prosecutor's Office has stated it did not offer a plea deal or request dismissal, so this petition addresses the court's sentencing decision alone.

A dog cannot speak up in a courtroom. Please sign and share so Judge Shepherd knows that Macomb County is watching on November 23.
