Don't Let a Slimy Attack Video Kill NPR

Update: The House has voted to defund NPR's budget and now its up to the Senate to stand up for the indispensable news source.

Right-wing extremists have struck a major blow -- using an unethical attack video. One extremist, who has attacked progressive organizations before, secretly filmed a fundraising executive for NPR as he spoke with men he thought were members of a fictitious Muslim Education Action Center Trust. This scandal, combined with Congress's recent attack, has forced NPR's president and CEO, Vivian Schiller, to resign.

NPR is a national treasure -- it informs and enlightens the American people with investigative journalism and in-depth cultural coverage. NPR has increased overseas news coverage at a time when most other news outlets have shut down their overseas bureaus -- helping us to better understand the rest of the world.

Tell the Senate that the House has made a mistake. Americans value the quality programming that NPR provides and unethical attacks against the media outlet should not be tolerated.
Tens of millions of Americans rely on public media for high-quality programming and global and local news.

[Your comments]

The American public has the right to fair and quality news, and we demand that NPR, PBS and other public service media keep their funding. I urge you to reprimand those who unethically attack NPR and vote to keep stations like it running.
