Our Climate Depends on Our Forests

Each year since 1973, humanity has used up the planet's yearly supply of ecological resources faster than ecosystems can regenerate them. In fact, in the United States alone, that threshold—or "ecological deficit day"—fell on March 14 this year. That means the US has consumed an entire year's worth of resources just ten weeks into 2026. Unless we take urgent action, that day will only land earlier and earlier in the calendar.
At the Rainforest Alliance, we believe that restoring the world's tropical forests is our most potent natural climate solution to the threats of climate change, biodiversity loss, and ecosystem depletion.
That's why we published our new Regenerative Agriculture Standard: While conventional farming eats up resources and worsens the climate crisis, regenerative practices can help us give back to nature more than we take. By working with more farmers around the world to implement our new standard, we can revitalize our soil, restore waterways, build climate resilience, and boost biodiversity.
As our Regenerative Agriculture Lead Juliana Jaramillo says, "Regenerative agriculture is no longer a choice—it's a necessity now."
Join our alliance and help ensure that the world's forests are protected for generations to come.
