We Want Marine Reserves for 40 Percent of Our Oceans!

We are totally dependent on our oceans. But, we're damaging them on a scale unimaginable to most people. Destructive fishing, polluting industries and climate change are threatening the survival of whole marine ecosystems, as species are driven towards extinction as their habitats are destroyed.

Overfishing is causing profound changes in our oceans, perhaps changing them forever. Currently, only 1% of the world's oceans are protected.

However, there is hope. Evidence garnered from all around the globe shows that the creation of marine reserves -- areas of ocean set aside as off-limits to fishing, fossil fuel extraction and other industrial activities -- can protect and restore ocean ecosystems.
