WA State residents, would you pay an extra 3 cents per pound on pet food to save thousands of cats and dogs in WA State? We, the undersigned, are concerned citizens who urge our leaders to act now and please pass SB 5329 & HB 1406, the Washington State Spay/Neuter assistance program. Both SB 5329 & HB 1406 will save the lives of cats and dogs in Washington State and will be good for the economy!
Nearly 140,000 animals end up homeless every year in Washington State. The most effective and humane way to reduce this number is a targeted, state-wide spay/neuter program. SB 5329 & HB 1406 would provide funding for over 70,000 spay/neuters per year, which would help reduce the number of animals going in to shelters each year and ultimately help to reduce animal control costs per year.
Also, private, public, and non-profit clinics can perform the surgeries. This translates to over $10 million in revenue for clinics per year! Funding would come from a fee paid by pet-food distributors. Passed directly to purchasers, the fee would cost pet owners merely 3 cents more per pound for pet food.
