Add Government Incentives for Electric Vehicles

With the report recently released that Iraq will have up to a $79 Billion Surplus this year there is no reason that America can't take part of the money we plan to give to Iraq over the next few years and concentrate on our own country.

Offering an incentive to auto makers who convert or open new domestic plants focused on reviving the electric car would reduce our dependency on oil (especially foreign oil), bring more jobs into the country, and open up new research markets for better designed electric cars and car parts.

Current technology allows EV's to get 300 miles per charge and allows the cars to run for about 2.5 cents per mile.

For those of you who know little about the Electric Car,  it was a short lived and badly marketed concept that car companies squashed when they realized that they could not make money off of tune-ups because of rarely these cars break down.

If you need more info a great film to give you more information on Electric cars is "Who killed the electric car". You can also do a quick search and find a lot of information.
We the citizens of America and The World recognize our impact on the environment, the economy and the future. We also recognize that the resources of the earth are finite as is the money in our wallets.

In the face of rising oil prices and a falling American economy we the undersigned ask that the American government look to the past for answers. In the early 1990's the California Air Resources Board (CARB) began forcing auto makers to manufacture and sell electric cars. These cars were quickly taken off the market and the laws governing them fought, largely due to a loss in profit when it was found that the cars did not need such a high level of standard maintenance as combustion cars.

We ARE NOT asking the government to force manufacturers to produce products that are not profitable. This would not help the economy and would likely have the same result as was seen in California. Instead we are asking the government to look at it's budget and re-evaluate it's expenditures, Iraq is looking at a possible $79 billion dollar surplus, corrupt governments around the world are keeping money meant to feed their people to line their own pockets. The money that we provide these countries could be used to offset the losses that domestic manufacturers and domestic plants of foreign manufacturers would lose from electric car costs.

This plan would allow us to reopen car plants, thus strengthening our economy and bringing jobs back to struggling areas. It would open new technology jobs for research into these electric cars. Finally it would reduce our dependence on oil thus lowering the cost of oil.

Current technology allows for these Electric Vehicles to be run for approximately 2.5 cents per mile and current batteries can allow for up to 300 miles per charge (more often batteries are provided to give 100 to 180 miles per charge due to battery costs [GM estimated that 40 miles per charge would serve 80% of the population]).
