Tell Radio Station Bear 100.3: Women are People Not Prizes!
Canadian radio station Bear 100.3 recently started began a contest where their listeners have the chance to "win a wife." This contest promises to serve as a step backwards in the fight for gender equality.
Bear 100.3 partnered with Russian mail order bride website "A Volga Girl" to offer listeners a chance to get set up with Russian bride. To offer a woman as a prize objectifies and degrades her. This is not simply offering up a dating service, it's offering a living, breathing human being.
Furthermore, Bear 100.3 is promoting an industry that can be very dangerous for women. While mail order marriages can work out, many don't. In some cases that marriage can turn abusive when it becomes clear that it will not work out.
Don't stand for the degradation of women. Demand that Bear 100.3 cease their contest in favor of a new one that does not harm women.
We the undersigned feel that your "win a wife" contest is detrimental to the fight for gender equality.
Offering a woman as a prize objectifies her and supports the idea that women are items to be bought rather that real people who deserve care and consideration. By running this contest you are sending a message to your listeners that you do not respect women as people.
Support equality, and show your female listeners that you respect them. Stop this contest in favor of one that does not degrade women.
