Repeal the Religious Liberty Accommodations Act
Mississippi's so-called "Religious Liberty Accommodations Act" allows individuals, organizations and businesses to discriminate against LGBT citizens on the basis of religion.
HB 1523 could affect LGBT citizens in the most important aspects of their lives. Potential for discrimination includes denying housing and refusing to recognize a marriage, refusing to grant adoption rights. The new law would harm LGBT children by allowing foster parents to force them to undergo conversion therapy, which every important psychological organization discredits.
The Religious Liberty Accommodations Act would harm Mississippi's economy, not just LGBT individuals. Large corporations such as Pepsi, GE and Dow have written to the state's governor and house speaker to state that the Act is not "reflective of their values" and could "diminish the state’s draw as a destination for tourism, new businesses, and economic activity."
