Demand the UK Government Introduces Tough Standards to Ensure Agricultural Products Do Not Harm Bees

Retailers across the UK are selling plants promoted to consumers as ‘bee-friendly’ that actually contain high levels of insecticides, according to a report on independent.co.uk

According to a new study, researchers "bought 29 such flowers from five different companies, four major retailers and one local nursery".

The report states: "They found all but two were contaminated with pesticides or fungicides and more than 70 per cent contained the controversial neonicotinoid chemicals which have been shown to cause significant harm to bees."

Bees are in trouble. According to adoptahive.co.uk: "In the past few years honey bees have experienced substantial declines. There were 27 species of bees in the UK and sadly 3 are now extinct with many others under threat."

Consumers who want to assist the bees should be able to depend on labelling. Will you join me in demanding the UK Government legislates for tougher agricultural standards that ensure plants and flowers that are sold as ‘bee-friendly’ do not contain high levels of insecticides that harm bees.
