Tell National Parks to Stop Crazy Tasing
Ask a million dog owners if any would ever expect to be tased for walking their pet off-leash. It's doubtful any would answer yes.
That is, if you asked before this crazy incident that happened recently at a California Park. Reports say Gary Hesterberg readily complied with a ranger's request to leash his terrier. But the ranger also expected him to wait while she made a call.
Witness reports say Hesterberg started to walk away, warning of his heart condition as the ranger pointed her Taser. But she shot anyway, knocked him to the ground, then expected him to roll over immediately so she could cuff him.
Tasers kill. A knock to the ground, itself, can cause severe brain damage, as one that recently put a young woman in a coma. Officers carrying these deadly weapons should never use them in non-violent situations.
The Dept. of Interior is investigating. Tell it and GGMRA to Stop This Crazy Use of Tasers.
We, the undersigned, are outraged, as are others, by a GGNRA ranger's excessive use of force against a non-violent citizen.
Furthermore we question why the ranger would even bother to detain a man who had already clearly complied with the ranger's request to leash his dog, especially considering that the rule itself appears to have been an non-posted and newly-written one, in the first place.
The Half Moon Bay Review reports that the General Orders guidebook for the largest law-enforcement agency where this incident occurred "...places stun guns as the third-highest level of permissible force, just below a carotid neck hold and deadly force. According to the orders, Tasers should be used only in cases involving 'dangerous, violent, or potentially violent subjects' and never against a nonviolent person who is fleeing."
We expect the Department of Interior's investigation to reflect on this information and end this crazy and potentially deadly use of Tasers.
