On Sunday 9th August poison was thrown into the back garden of a house in the area of Kaki Vigla on the Greek island of Salamina. 40 dogs lived there with a family who looked after them. They were vaccinated, fed and were kept very clean.
18 of the 40 dogs died. 6 are still receiving treatment at a local vets and are expected to recover.
Dear Sir Mayor
It is with horror that we have just read about the mass poisoning of 40 dogs %u2013 NOT STRAYS %u2013 but 40 dogs belonging to a private citizen, loved and cared for, all vaccines up to date.
We urge you to prosecute the person responsible for this heinous deed. Greece has a very, very bad reputation for its abuse to animals, for its non-existent humane policies to deal with strays i.e. trap/neuter/spay! You can make a difference here, and let the world know there is at least one mayor in Greece who actually cares.
