Yelena Barr beat, choked and stomped on a defenseless dog, and also abused it right in front of an animal control officer! Add your name if you agree that people like her deserve the worst possible punishment!
"Yelena Barr, 21, of Des Moines pleaded guilty Monday and was sentenced to 30 days in jail, according to court records," reported the Des Moines Register.
30 days... big whoop.
According to the same source: "a man at Barr's apartment saw her beat her dog Toby repeatedly on her apartment's balcony, then throw the animal back into her apartment.
"A woman told police she also saw Barr throw her dog across a dog park and hold the dog in the air while choking the animal with both hands."
But it gets worse...
"An animal control officer arrived at Barr's apartment and saw Barr hit her dog three times with her right hand," the complaint says. "The animal control officer also saw Barr throw the dog across her apartment as she opened her apartment door," said the same source.
Poor Toby suffered grievous injuries at the hands of his owner.
"Large purple and red bruises stretched from his injured eye to the top of his head and across his ear."
"There were places that looked like they'd been punctured. We delicately cleaned his wounds, started him on antibiotics and made him a soft bed where he could begin his recovery.
"Sadly, we also found old injuries that can no longer be healed and will affect how he walks for the rest of his life," reported a representative of ARL Animal Services, the organization that rescued Toby from the torture he was forced to endure.
But Barr wasn't finished when Toby was taken away.
She actually had the nerve to buy ANOTHER dog on Craigslist, but fortunately that dog was also rescued before she could do any more harm to another defenseless animal.
All Toby wanted was to give his owner his love, but she treated him like garbage and left him with scars he will have for the rest of his life, both physically and emotionally.
Senator Bernie Sanders has been a longtime advocate for animal rights, and has co-sponsored numerous pieces of legislation to combat animal cruelty.
That's why we're asking him to lead a movement in Congress that would strengthen punishments for heartless people that get off on torturing innocent animals.
