Stop the Inhumane "Grab and Go" Sale of Live Invertebrates at Chow Hound Stores

    I. The Problem: Life is Not a Trading Card
For years, Chow Hound Pet Supply was a beacon of humane standards in West Michigan. They championed the "Adopt, Don't Shop" mentality by housing rescue animals and prioritizing welfare over profit.

That legacy is now under threat. Recently, Chow Hound stores have introduced impulse-purchase displays at their checkout counters featuring tarantulas and scorpions. These living beings are being marketed like Pokémon cards—urging customers to "Grab and Go" and "Collect Them All."

II. The Reality of the Situation
As a professional with 20 years of experience in animal welfare, I have seen firsthand the tragic results of impulse pet purchases. These invertebrates are being:

Crammed into tiny, improper enclosures with price tags slapped on the side.

Housed with incorrect substrate, causing severe distress to burrowing species.

Sold to unprepared buyers who lack the specialized knowledge required to keep these delicate creatures alive.

Staff are often forced to sell these animals without proper training, and the results are inhumane. No living creature—regardless of how "cuddly" it is—should be treated as a last-minute add-on purchase.

    III. Our Demand
We are calling on Feeders Pet Supply/Chow Hound to immediately:

Remove all impulse-purchase displays of live invertebrates from the cash-wrap areas.

Cease the "Collect Them All" marketing campaign that commodifies living beings.

Return to the humane standards that once made Chow Hound a trusted name in West Michigan.

    IV. Why This Matters
The ill-treatment of any living being should never be tolerated. When we allow the exploitation of smaller creatures for a "quick buck," we give permission for the exploitation of all animals.

Please sign this petition to tell Chow Hound that West Michigan stands for welfare, not exploitation.
