Tell Penn State to Keep Research Honest!

We count on university professors to produce unbiased, accurate science--especially on the topic of climate change. So why has Pennsylvania State University emeritus Professor Frank Clemente allegedly been taking money from gas and oil giants to publish research that denies global warming?

Vast amounts of unbiased research show that climate change is a grave problem with disastrous implications for the future. But professors who put personal greed above good research ethics are clouding the issue. Greenpeace has busted Clemente and one other Penn State prof for allegedly taking bribes to distort the truth about climate change. The very least Penn State can do is to require faculty to disclose where and how they got financial support that could easily compromise their research. Please join with me in asking Penn State to require faculty to disclose conflicts of interest on all published research.

Dear Pennsylvania State University President Eric J. Barron:

We the undersigned are truly saddened to learn that two of your faculty have allegedly accepted what amounts to bribes from energy giants to distort the truth about climate change. The public counts on reputable universities like Penn State to publish unbiased research on which we can build sensible policies to curb climate change and avoid the worst disasters that will befall us if we fail to do so. We think that the least you can do is to require faculty to disclose conflicts of interest on all published research so that we can separate what is pure research from what is likely paid propaganda.
