Opposition to Walpole Power Plant

A Petition in Opposition to a Power Plant in Walpole    

We oppose a 580 megawatt gas fired power plant in Walpole because it will threaten our water supply, and negatively impact our health and air.
 
16,000 gallons of aqueous ammonia, and other hazardous chemicals will be stored over our Sole Source Aquifer and increase the risk of leaks, spills, or a catastrophic event that could pollute our water supply and force evacuation of homes.
 
The plant will draw up to 200,000 gallons of water a day from our aquifer and require a two million gallon backup water storage tank and a 500,000 gallon tank for fire suppression.
 
Two 250 foot smokestacks will disperse tons of emissions over a 6 to 12 mile radius. These pollutants are associated with respiratory problems in children and the elderly. An elementary school and pre-school center are located within one mile of the site.
