Help save Australian owls, koalas and the endangered potoroo from a highway development

A proposed highway upgrade that received approval in August will endanger several threatened species, including the Potoroo.

Three Potoroos, a native Australian marsupial described as a cross between a kangaroo and a koala, were caught in the Ngunya Jargoon Indigenous Protected Area (IPA).

The IPA, which is home to a total of 38 threatened species, falls along the proposed highway upgrade which runs from Woolgoolga to Ballina in New South Wales (NSW).

Furthermore, wildlife experts have refuted the findings of an Environmental Impact Statement produced by the NSW Roads and Maritime Service, which stated that the project would not directly impact on potoroo habitats.

Wildlife experts argue that there is an easy solution to ensure the survival of the potoroo - move the highway parallel with the current route.

Not only will potoroos benefit from moving the highway parallel to the current route - other threatened species will also be saved such as the powerful owl and koala.

Please sign and share the petition to demand the government reverses its approval – and that the new highway is moved parallel to the current route.
