Demand the Loutraki Mayor to end NOW the disgrace of the Landfill Dogs & Puppies

Loutraki is a Corinthian resort town in the Peloponnese, a popular tourist destination that generates, along with its famous Casino, a great deal of revenue in the local municipality.

It is a two-faced town, however. Behind the sophisticated landscape cloak lies the anguish, the hellish TRUTH. The DREADFUL LANDFILL OF LOUTRAKI WITH HUNDREDS OF ABANDONED DOGS.

Every inhabitant is well aware of what is really happening in this Inferno. The vast, hostile landfill "hosts" at least 200 emaciated, abandoned, sick, dying dogs. The carcasses simply build-up, either in winter with the bitter cold or in the summer with the merciless heat. Exhausted, skeletal, sad creatures experience a day-to-day torture. Abandoned among piles of dumpster filth and masonry left-overs, the majority of them covered with cement dust, lying among bricks and cement debris and pointed, sharp and rusty irons, they vainly seek a chunk of food, chew and tear plastic bags in order to survive, swallowing all sorts of garbage and filth, until they die in excruciating pains out of thirst and hardship or out of bloated and blocked intestines and all sorts of skin rashes and parasites.

For the ELECTED local authorities and -above and most of all the Mayor of Loutraki, the horrendous if not notorious George Gionis- the "Landfill creatures" simply do not exist. He lifts his shoulder and states harshly "It's not my responsibility, I can not be held ACCOUNTABLE for the mistreatment of these animals". Although there is provision of funds from the EU to all the Municipalities in Greece for shelters and vet stations, very few make real use of these funds to that end. Loutraki was given a substantial amount of money for such infrastructures yet delivered absolutely no relevant facilities whatsoever. In the contrary puppy mills thrive in Loutraki together with illegal exportation of dogs, under the fake facades of "animal welfare" gangs.

The care of these animals is done solely by one person, Aphrodite Fryda, a 40-year-old unemployed woman who visits the landfill almost daily. Without any assistance or sponsorship, Afrodite earns her daily bread by cleaning houses whenever she does not drive nearly 60 km back-and-forth, transporting water and dry food to these poor creatures and setting-up heavy iron traps in an effort to capture and spay as many dogs as possible in order to eliminate the reproduction and mortality of the puppies and the dams, most of which simply die after giving birth, leaving the puppies unattended, fragile and exposed to all sorts of dangers in this dreadful, hideous and hostile surroundings.

Afrodite's struggle has no end. In a single day she must feed the survived puppies, make sure they all live, drive, feed, set-up the traps, struggle, search, seize, drive back to the local vets to treat the ill ones, shelter, host, give for adoption. All at her own expense, sometimes at the expense of her proper job, since all vets downtown REFUSE to provide voluntarily, refuse to visit the Landfill and expect her to bring the dogs down to their clinics and most certainly refuse to exempt her from the vaccination/spaying/treatment bills, although they are all well aware of her financial distress.

The worst part though is the WAR Afrodite suffers from the Mayor who refuses to meet and listen. In the contrary he mocks her when she dares to protest in public against his inadequacy and his reluctance to do what he promised to do about the Landfill Dogs prior to his election. Not only her agonizing quest for decent and permanent adoptions for these creatures is despised, she's persecuted too and even prosecuted and scorned. Not to mention the mockery and scoff she endures from the local police everytime she reports incidents of fresh abandonments in the Landfill. For Afrodite the gates of the Landfill are guarded and closed. For all the rest the gates open widely and new dogs are abandoned with ZERO fines or concequences.

Therefore WE STAND NEXT TO AFRODITE'S STRUGGLE AND DEMAND FROM THE MAYOR GEORGE GIONIS AND KOPRAP, THE LOCAL ANIMAL WELFARE, TO EVAQUATE ONCE AND FOR ALL, ALL THE DOGS FROM THE LANDFILL OF LOUTRAKI, SPAY AND TREAT ALL ILL DOGS WITH PUBLIC FUNDS, IMMEDIATELY BUILD DECENT, LEGAL SHELTERS AND INFRASTRUCTURES AND GUARD THE LANDFILL 24/24, 365/365 TO ENSURE THAT THE LANDFILL REMAINS FREE FROM DITCHED-IN DOGS. THE LANDFILL OF LOUTRAKI IS A DISGRACE FOR GREECE, A HUBRIS TO OUR CIVILIZATION AND ALL SUCH MAYORS' ATTITUDE IS NO LONGER TOLERATED. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Μιά πόλη σαν το Λουτράκι, από χρόνια γνωστός και δημοφιλής τουριστικός προορισμός είναι -και λόγω του Καζίνου- από τις πλούσιες πόλεις της χώρας και με υψηλό κατά κεφαλή εισόδημα, χώρια όσα εισπράττει ο Δήμος. Αυτά είναι γνωστά. Όπως γνωστό επίσης είναι ότι πίσω από αυτή την ατσαλάκωτη βιτρίνα λειτουργεί μιά απάνθρωπη, ελεεινή και τρομακτική χωματερή όπου εγκαταλείπονται χρόνια τώρα ανεπιθύμητα, άρρωστα, ετοιμοθάνατα, ταλαιπωρημένα και αδύναμα σκυλιά.
Κάθε Λουτρακιώτης, προς μεγάλη αισχύνη του, γνωρίζει τι συμβαίνει μέσα σ'αυτό το κολαστήριο, όπου 200 και πλέον αδύναμα σκυλιά πεθαίνουν κάτω από φριχτές συνθήκες εξαθλίωσης, σκελετωμένα, νηστικά, διψασμένα, εκτεθειμένα σε κάθε καιρική συνθήκη, χειμώνα καλοκαίρι ανάμεσα σε μπάζα, σίδερα, πτώματα άλλων σκυλιών και κουταβιών που πεθαίνουν πριν καν θηλάσουν. Όσα επιβιώνουν από τη βαναυσότητα και τη σκληρότητα των συνθηκών που επικρατούν σκίζουν τις σκουπιδοσακκούλες για να τραφούν πεθαίνοντας από φριχτους πόνους και κακοπάθεια με τα έντερά τους γεμάτα πλαστικό και ενδοπαράσιτα, ψώρα και ξεπέτσιασμα.
