Protect the Endangered Species Act!

One of the strongest of the federal laws that protect our wildlife has become endangered itself.

The Endangered Species Act was created in 1973 under Nixon, protecting many plants and animals from becoming extinct. Lately, there has been hearings to dismantle the act believing that it is harmful to American businesses. The critics of the ESA believe that the protections of habitats challenge our economy and has a negative impact on drilling, logging, and mining. There have been many assaults on the Endangered Species Act claiming that it isn’t effective in protecting the species and hasn’t delisted many plants and animals under the act. In fact, it has saved over 99 percent of the species on the list from extinction, disproving the assertion that it is inadequate.

With the ESA, species regained their numbers and many habitats were protected. Even trade of endangered plants and animals was halted within other countries. Without these notions to help the plants and animals in need, many will become extinct within a short time such as the African elephants. 30,000 elephants are being killed every year from poaching and with the endangered species act gone, these numbers are going to rise to the point of extinction for the elephants in Africa.

So please sign this petition and urge your congress to keep this very crucial act and to dismantle these reforms that would cripple the Endangered Species Act.
