Support Foster Care Prevention Services and Programs

The purpose of this petition is to bring awareness to everyone about Foster Care Prevention and Programs that can take place if provided with the right funds. Enabling states to use federal funds will support children, families and prevent foster care placements by obtaining treatment services, parenting skill programs and mental health and substance abuse prevention. These services are put in place so the children can maintain their safety and well-being. The concern is that there are 500,000 children in foster care which is a large number. Instead of leading children to foster care, funding programs to provide services for the children and family can decrease the amount of children in foster care. Signing this petition will raise awareness to not only the state but maybe other investors that would like to fund a cause providing a safety and well-being life for children and families. Funding these programs will allow these families more resources to better their lives. One core value that is supported from the NASW code of ethics is Importance of Human Relationships. The role of the social worker in this situation would be to help strengthen relationships from individuals to families. This value relates to the topic being discussed because it allows the social worker to provide this population with knowledge or even resources to help with keeping children out of foster care.
