Cleaning up Chesapeake Bay will be one of the biggest jobs America's east coast has ever undertaken. But it won't be thankless. A recent report, issued by the Chesapeake Bay Foundation, shows the clean up will create almost 250,000 new jobs. Improvements to sewers and storm water systems will require hiring engineers, construction workers, and other professionals.
Maryland and Virginia are on board with the project, having already budgeted $3 billion for infrastructure improvements that will stem the flow of pollutants into the bay.
But lawmakers in other states--New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia--are dragging their feet. And the clean up depends on the cooperation of all six states. Some lawmakers would even rather shell out to high-priced lobbyists who oppose the clean up instead of sucking it up and paying for the clean up! Go figure.
Tell lawmakers in New York, Pennsylvania, Delaware and West Virginia to get with the program and authorize a clean up which is guaranteed to bring jobs, seafood, and tourism to the northeastern United States.
