Send thanks to Cher for promoting Sochi dog rescue efforts

In a Twitter post on February 9, 2014 , 

Cher urged her followers to help save the stray dogs being exterminated in Sochi as part of Russia's 2014 Winter Olympic "preparations". 

Her tweet reads: "THIS IS MY RUSSIAN FRIEND OLEG’S CHARITY. IT WOULD MAKE ME SO HAPPY IF YOU’D JUST CHECK IT OUT." 

Cher is referring to the Facebook page Povodog, which connects animal lovers worldwide with others trying to help save Sochi's stray dogs. 

The benefactor to whom Cher is referring is Oleg V. Deripaska, a Russian billionaire has funded an emergency shelter 

to house the strays animal rescuers find in Sochi in hopes of adopting them to visiting athletes and fans. 

It is being called PovoDog, a play on the Russian word povodok, which means leash.

The Povodog Facebook page was established on Feb. 5 and already has 840 likes and counting. 

In addition to pictures of incredibly adorable puppies, the Facebook page links readers to step-by-step instructions on how to help Sochi's stray dogs from the comfort of their own homes
