Tell Catholic Hospitals: Stop Putting Women At Risk

In December of 2010, a mother of three named Tameka means drove herself to the nearest hospital in Michigan. Tameka was only 18 weeks pregnant, but her water had broken already. Tameka was bleeding uncontrollably and running a high fever. She needed an abortion. But doctors refused to give her one because the facility was Catholic.

A few hours later, as Tameka was preparing to leave the hospital, she delivered the baby, who died almost immediately. Tameka herself could have died, too. At the very least, the hospital's refusal to help her put her in serious danger.

And that wasn't the only time Catholic hospitals have risked a woman's life rather than give her an abortion. In 2010, a nun who was the administrator of a Catholic hospital in Phoenix was excommunicated after she allowed an abortion to save a woman.

It's clear that the Catholic church refuses to see women as worthy of medical care. Tell them to stop putting women's lives at risk!
