Tell Governor Ned Lamont to Nominate A Black Woman Judge

Connecticut has been a pioneer in some of the most progressive policies established in the country from the landmark Crown Act to the innovative Green Bank, Connecticut has never shied away from establishing a path for a new future. However, when it comes to the diversity of Connecticut's Supreme Court, the court's demographic has been largely white and predominantly male-dominated.

There has never, in the history of Connecticut's supreme court, been a Black woman justice. According to former Connecticut Judge Angela Robinson, "100% of the Connecticut state supreme court justices have been White [for 203 of its 238-year history and] for 194 of its 238-year history, 100% of the state supreme court justices have been White men. "

This week Governor Ned Lamont plans to announce his nomination for a new judge who will replace Justice Christine Keller, who is retiring. Our State's leaders have for far too long ignored and overlooked the abundance of exceptional black female candidates who are more than qualified for the job.
