The Landlord and Tenant Board’s role is to provide information about the Residential Tenancies Act (RTA) and to resolve disputes between most residential landlords and tenants.
On January 25th, 2011, our Board became part of the newly designated social justice tribunals cluster. This second cluster brings together our Board and six other important adjudicative tribunals – Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, Social Benefits Tribunal, Custody Review Board, Child and Family Services Review Board and Special Education Tribunal (English) and Special Education Tribunal (French). The mandate of these tribunals is to provide all Ontarians with timely access to specialized, expert and effective dispute resolution in a wide range of matters that profoundly affect their everyday lives.
Well the problem is that there is "harrasment -favoritism-malcontent-no child services(daycare)-taking more than a day to settle disputes-no privacy -...
and of course they are not judges!!!!!! Lawyers that loose there are blocked off from going to a judge to get fair and proper treatment resulting on infringements and embarrasment to both clients and lawyers. The city ontario works also denies a poor client bus tickets to go to these hearings.
oh- if you loose the landowner that didn't show but sent a lawyer,(and the Ottawa hydro who didn't show), blames you and both landlordboard and lawyer are awarded a cost amount... And yet you filed and paid.The rate has also been dramatically increased to where the poor simply cannot afford to go.
Musn't forget that if the bailiff shows up to boot you off the property they are enforcing an unlawful act because even the landlord tenant board states"they are not technically legal".

Close the boards !! The tenant board limits how much you can ask for and when it is over the limit insults you and all in the room (luckily all recorded) stating "FRIVOLOUS" and refusing to send your claim to a real court and judge.
They show visible stress and sometimes do not even know the date being overtired.They donot insist lawyers identify themselves to the opposing party. THey donot insist proof of proper or set rental cost.
** They simply cannot and should not be in a possition of making judgements.**
I say send all those matters to the local courthouse where they will recieve proper judges decisions befor there is ,maybe, a class action lawsuit for the items and more said within this petition.
To give credit where credit is due consider offering the members more training to become judge certified and then possible work in the courthouse.
