Almost two years ago, Javier Milei became president of Argentina and instituted a sweeping series of austerity measures designed to cut government spending. Needless to say, none of these policies have been effective and the Argentinian economy is now in an extended free fall as it continues to suffer from sky-high unemployment rates and spreading poverty. Milei appeared before the United Nations earlier this week to ask for a bailout from the global body.
Luckily for Milei, he has a powerful friend in the United States. Milei has consistently praised President Trump and called his victory in 2024 "the greatest political comeback in history." This seems doubtful, but Trump clearly enjoyed it and said that Milei has done an "incredible" job as president of Argentina. Much of Trump's early efforts to cut federal spending were inspired by Milei's policies. Perhaps because of Trump and Milei's cozy relationship, Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent indicated that "all options are on the table" to bail out Argentina's floundering economy.
Tell President Trump no taxpayer bailout for Argentina!
The American economy is already struggling under the weight of the Trump tariffs and the big beautiful bill. American taxpayers are already paying the price for our own government's foolishness; we cannot also afford to pay to fix the damage that Milei's "anarcho capitalist" policies have done in Argentina.
Americans must tell President Trump that we refuse to bail out one of his buddies because he ruined his economy chasing right-wing fairy tale economics.
