I worked at a dealership for almost a year as a shuttle driver, it would have been a year on June 14, of this year. I was talking to one of my coworkers last week, and he advised that he heard they were bringing a shuttle service in. I confronted the owner later that afternoon, he told me it was true. I asked him why I was told, he said I was a good worker, and was trying to find another job for me, even if I needed to be trained. They offered me a position in the filing room, this room hasn't been touched for at least 3 years. There is over 10,000 files just laying around, the room was a mess. It's full of dust, hot and humid. I have extremely bad sinuses, 5 surgeries on the right, I was in the room for only 5 minutes and I walked out with a headache. I asked the owner how long until they come in, and he replied at least a month. On Friday the 13th, at 3:30 I was asked to go in the office with 2 mangers. One of the managers put a paper in front of me and asked me to sign, but I refused! It was stating it was At Will, and I had no right to know why I was being let go. They knew at least a month before this happened. I know that I'm not the only one who had this happen to! I'm left with no income, no healthcare now. This isn't right, why aren't employers suppose to give you at least 2 weeks notice? They are messing with people's medications, and lives. How do we pay bills? I think it's time for a change, employees should have right too. Maybe these employers should be made to be responsible for what they do. These employees have families, no wonder homeless rate is so high! Make these employers pay for their healthcare for at least a month, and 2 weeks pay! Just think how you would feel if this happens to you!!!!!
