FREE MRS ZIMMER!!
Mrs. Zimmer, our devoted photojournalist and journalism teacher, is the very heart of the Patriot Press page and the driving force behind the yearbook—without her, neither of these important parts of our school community would even exist. Recently, she was unfairly placed on administrative leave simply for posting her opinion on her own personal Facebook page about last week’s tragic event, even though her post was completely harmless, respectful, and in no way offensive. To make matters worse, a Facebook community page was created by a parent encouraging people to report any Fauquier County teachers who share their personal opinions, with the goal of getting them fired. This is deeply concerning, because no matter where you stand politically, it is never acceptable to silence, punish, or attack someone for respectfully sharing their perspective. The truth is, everyone who knows Mrs. Zimmer respects and loves her deeply—she pours her heart into her students, inspires us to think critically, and brings joy, passion, and care into everything she does. Without her presence, the yearbook will not be completed, the Patriot Press will struggle, and most importantly, students will lose the guidance of an educator who truly wants the best for us. Please, take a stand for fairness, compassion, and free expression by signing the petition to bring Mrs. Zimmer back—our school, and every student who admires her, needs her now more than ever.
