Instead of Curbing Gun Violence, This City Wants to Welcome the NRA to Town

Indianapolis has a gun violence problem — so much so that, last year, the city declared gun violence a public health danger. In fact, in 2018, Indianapolis saw a record number of criminal homicides, many of which were gun-related, for the fourth year in a row.

And yet, Indianapolis still plans to let the National Rifle Association (NRA) hold its annual convention in the city this April. Please sign this petition urging Indianapolis to reconsider giving the NRA a platform to propagate violence.

Since his 2015 campaign, Mayor Joe Hogsett has made curbing gun violence a core talking point, but has failed to deliver results. After record-breaking violence in 2018, maybe it's time for Hogsett to make good on his promise to protect his constituents from senseless gun violence instead of trying to cash in on the nearly $60 million boon to the local economy that the city expects during the convention.

The NRA is a dangerous organization that profits off of Americans killing each other. They have colluded with gun manufacturers and dealers to prevent any regulatory control over who can acquire a weapon. And they have implemented a sophisticated system of political bribery and extortion, resulting in inaction from Congress on gun control as thousands of Americans — including children — are killed.

If Mayor Hogsett and the City of Indianapolis really want to reduce gun violence, they should take a stand against the terrorist organization that fuels it.

Please join in demanding that Indianapolis refuse to let the NRA hold its annual convention in Indianapolis.
