North Carolina Law Doesn't Recognize Male Rape as RAPE

In North Carolina, first-degree rape is defined as vaginal intercourse with the threat or reality of violence. This implies that non-consensual sodomy and/or intercourse where the victim is male and where the perpetrator is either male or female is not considered rape. NC law does not account for rape of men or boys and does not classify penalties for it under first- or second-degree rape laws. Equal protection under the law for rape victims is incredibly important, regardless of gender. 1 in 16 males are raped during their college career. 30% of gay and bisexual males experience sexual violence in their lifetime. We need to stop stigmatizing male rape by implying that men always want sex or that they should have been "man enough" to say no or stop their rapist. Protect our men and boys. Sign the petition and tell North Carolina Legislators that "No means No" regardless of sex.
