Safety alone justifies that a Designated Motorcycle Lane (DML) needs to be created! The motorcycle industry, even as much as it has grown, does not have anywhere near - the problems cause by motorists. There are far more accidents with cars, trucks and SUV’s than motorcycles. And, the accidents caused by motorists among other motorists, especially when a motorcycle is involved are far more critical than motorcycle accidents alone.
A Designated Motorcycle Lane (DML) will greatly enhance motorcycle safety and will further increase the general public to ride motorcycles for their daily commute, resulting in the many benefits of greatly reduced 4-wheel traffic on our roadways.
There are several ways in which a motorcycle lane can be created without the high cost of construction. A valid example is; the far left lane, also know as the “fast-lane” (not the diamond lane) can be labeled as the Designated Motorcycle Lane (DML). This is a most simple and most inexpensive approach.
More motorcycles can utilize a lane more efficiently than cars, trucks, SUV’s or big rigs. Just one lane of 4-wheel traffic eliminated from our highway will result in billions of dollars saved and an immense amount of benefits to our environment.
