It has been brought to our attention that the city of Beverly has made tentative plans to tear down Hurd Stadium, and create a stadium next to Beverly High School. The signatures on this page represent the many current or former residents of Beverly or surrounding areas who believe that Hurd Stadium is a historial landmark and a crucial part of Beverly history, and should not be sold.
Signatures on this petition will hopefully present to city officials how important Hurd Stadium is to Beverly and Beverly history. To many, this proposal to build a new field is a wonderful idea, since we need new turf for bad weather and field lights for night games. Building a new field is fine, however, we disagree with the motion to tear down Hurd Stadium and sell it.
Selling Hurd would be a heartbreaking moment in history for people throughout the city of Beverly. Memories have been created for about 70 years on that field, and blood, sweat, and tears have been shed at Hurd Stadium. This petition is to ask city officials to strongly reconsider what they are planning in the future; selling a historical piece of Beverly, MA.
