Supervised Practice Room for DancingD
The challenges that the Delta college dancers are facing is that there are no rooms to complete homework assigned in dane classes, i.e., space to dance. Additionally there are no tutors or supervisors to guide or instruct students in completing these assignments. This results in a high drop out rate and low scores on in class activities and tests.
It is a pleasure to write about my experience as a Delta College dancer. Valerie Gnassounou-Byoes' dance program at Delta College is a fun effective method to enhance students physical stamina, confidence in performing, interest in dance and sharpen focus in the art of dancing. However the challenge of no space to "practice, practice, practice" as Valerie would say is very frustrating.
Valerie Gnassounou-Byoe is a lover of dance. She believes dance connects us to our earth and ourselves. She loves her job and spends lots of time with the production crew after school. It is not possible for her to also perform all of the neccisary supervision and tutoring to guide all the students who are not yet ready to perform. I am in my third semester with Valorie, and while my physical condition has dramatically improved since my first class with Valorie, I cannot improve on my technique without practicing. I think I speak for most of the other dancers when I say, we need a supervised space to practice our dancing assignments.
Through Valories' devotion to the art of dance, she has created many fun techniques designed to increase our ability to strengthen our muscles, increase stamina and develop confidence in performing dance routines. I am curious to see how much better we could all be doing if we had some place to practice. So many of us really want the opportunity to excell in the field of dance.
