KFC, please establish and enfore humane standards for your slaughterhouse suppliers.
Dear Mr. David Novak,
We, the undersigned, think it's time for a change. The animals at the slaughterhouses of your food suppliers, are being tortured this second. You need to implement and enforce humane standards for your slaughterhouse suppliers. Please allow me to briefly discuss what the standards should look like and what needs to be changed.
The electrical stunning and throat slicing needs to be replaced with contained-atmosphere stunning-to-kill. This is much less painful for the birds, especially opposed to your current technique of cutting their legs open and slicing their beaks while theyre still conscious. In addition, you need to install security cameras in slaughterhouses to enforce the humane standards and to make sure that theyre being followed. You need to switch to humane mechanized chicken gathering. Studies have shown that when done manually, there are four times as many broken legs, and eight times more bruises. Additionally, stop forcing rapid growth and feeding chickens drugs, and breed for health instead. The birds shouldnt be fed too much at one, and shouldnt be given drugs. The chickens need to be given more living space. The birds get injured much more when they have too little space, and dont get injured nearly as much when they have more space. You need to allow birds the opportunity to fulfill their natural desire for activity as well. The birds will be happier and healthier when they are fed better food and live in a better environment.
Many people will make the case that you shouldnt sell any meat, but that seems very unrealistic. We can recognize that you have a business and that people eat at KFC. As nice as it would be if you didnt sell meat, establishing and strictly enforcing humane standards would be great. We are not going to stop pressuring you until this happens.
Please seriously look at this petition, and all the people that think its time for a change. You can make a difference for the innocent chickens, so please do. Thank you for your time and understanding.
