Every year, on a specific lunar calendar day called "Ashurah", some disturbed people in parts of Morocco practice heinous criminal acts of torture against wild cats, in what they believe is a sorcery ritual, cats get their mouths filled / stuffed with foreign objects, most of which are toxic, then their (the cats') mouths are sewed shut while the cats are alive and looking, the cats are then released to suffer in agony until a long painful death finally happens.
Please join me in asking the Moroccan government and parliament to enforce the local animal protection laws and/or pass new laws and apprehend the perpetrators immediately.
Many Moroccan families adopt pet cats, most cats however in Morocco are semi-domesticated since the weather allows it. Stray cats are usually treated with gentleness are are fed by everyone, everywhere... it is hard to visit Morocco without noticing how cats are thriving everywhere.
Morocco is a beautiful country with extremely welcoming population and is one of the highest ranked touristic destinations worldwide. Most people in Morocco are against these animal cruelty acts, or do not even know that they actually happen in their country and probably have been happening for a while.
So what changed and how do we know?
This issue was mentioned and covered by Moroccan independent news outlets in August 2020, caused an outrage and was highly denounced by the Moroccan population on all social networks.
However, the leadership in morocco did not take any noticeable actions and they probably needs a nudge to know that people actually care a lot, and that this kind of publicity is hurtful for the country's image.
These kind of acts of cruelty are by no means limited to Morocco, but at least in this country, news outlets were diligent enough to report it. I believe that Morocco is ready to have a serious crack down on such practices.
