The United States Senate will greet the New Year with a renewed debate on our nation's energy policy. We, the undersigned, urge you to support provisions in energy legislation that place energy efficiency and environmental protection before oil industry interests. In particular, I support provisions to:
* Protect the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge in Alaska from oil drilling;
* Raise energy efficiency standards for air conditioners and other appliances by 30%;
* Expand federal research and action on the critical issue of climate change;
* Catalyze the development of clean and renewable energy resources; and
* Hike fuel efficiency in cars and light trucks.
I also request that you oppose wasteful and destructive taxpayer subsidies for the fossil fuel and nuclear industries. Please support amendments that address my concerns.
