Choose the Next Supreme Court Justice Wisely, Mr. President
For more than three decades, Associate Justice John Paul Stevens was a tremendous force for justice and fairness on the Supreme Court.
A quick look at the Court's most controversial decisions, from Brown v. Board to Citizen's United v. the FCC, and it's clear that the appointment of a new Supreme Court Justice is among the most monumental decisions any president will make.
To replace John Paul Stevens -- a stalwart champion of constitutional values and the rule of law, and a man who served the court with compassion and integrity for more than 34 years -- will be a decision second to none.
Tell President Obama to appoint a justice who will keep faith with core constitutional values, stand for fairness under the law and defend our most important freedoms and protections -- a justice who will honor the legacy of Associate Justice John Paul Stevens.
Dear President Obama:
Few of your actions as President will have as deep and lasting an impact as your appointments to the Supreme Court. As you know, while the Court has careened further to the right, Justice Stevens emerged as the stalwart champion of core Constitutional values and the rule of law, leaving a legacy of preserving civil rights, environmental protections, and judicial oversight of executive power.

Without a worthy successor to Justice Stevens, the Roberts Court will move full steam ahead with their political agenda to rewrite decades of law to protect large corporations at the expense of everyday Americans.
I urge you to choose a highly qualified nominee to fill Justice Stevens' seat, someone who will stand up for equal justice for all, not just the wealthy or powerful. We need a justice who will keep faith with core constitutional values, stand for fundamental fairness, and defend our most important freedoms and protections.
