Republicans in the Senate have not only vowed to block the confirmation of the next Supreme Court Justice — many of them have also said they won't even meet with Chief Judge Garland. Instead of helping our country move forward, they're criticizing President Obama for doing his job while refusing to do theirs.
Speaker of the House Paul Ryan wants to "leave this decision to the American people," and let the next President fill the seat. But Senate Republicans need to be reminded that the American people made their decision by electing President Obama twice. It's clear that Chief Judge Garland has the experience and the integrity to rule fairly as the ninth member of the Supreme Court.
The Senate GOP's refusal to confirm Chief Judge Garland isn't leadership — it's obstruction. We cannot afford to compromise the Supreme Court with Republican-led political games, and it's time to tell the GOP that we cannot let them continue to block progress.
