We believe no matter where you live, your quality of life, creed, color, nationality or religion, we all share one common philosophy-justice for all. The individuals who go beyond their call of duty should be recognized for doing so, as well as the ones who fall short or shirk their responsibilities. After saying that, we wish to make our intentions known. We are both trying to raise awarness to a great problem we are facing here in Canada. We don't know how many of you have heard of a city called Cornwall, situated south east of our Nations Capital, Ottawa Ontario, just across the St. Lawerence river from New York state U.S.A. Since the 50's there has been a dark cloud http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XlUyAz66fQsof secrecy surrounding this small city and in the last few years light has been shed on this area by way of a public inquiry. It is the largest Inquiry in the history of our young nation, with a cost now , well exceeding 30 million dollars. Everyone involved in this Inquiry are prominent members of this town and or church. There have been well more than 100 charges laid of sexual abuse cases, yet through cover-ups, shotty police work, pay-offs and outright scandels, to our knowledge there has only been 1 conviction. Witness after witness that were called, had one excuse or another for not acting on multiple reports of sexual abuse. So many claimed they were unable to testify for medical based reasons. Two Catholic Bishops appologized for not reacting properly to allegations, verified they shifted priests to different locations to hide the problems they were facing. Including one priest from the States that had a conviction of sexual abuse, was transfered to Cornwall ( a bishop admittingly knowing). Admissions of pay-offs and so many other unappropriate actions were admitted to the Inquiry under oath. Only one police officer- Perry Dunlop, came forward in the early 90's and brought forth a statement to C.A.S, that a victim had been sexual abused by a priest. This statement was apparently trying to slip through the priests and police without being reported. Perry Dunlop is now in jail, has already served 6 months and now another 30 days for not testifying in the Inquiry. Now, does that sound like the police were doing their sworn duty. We are not trying to sway your opinions by giving you ours, but we will give you a website which will inform you and also lead you to actual testimony given at the inquiry. This will show you the facts as to how the children and adult children of sexual abuse were let down once again. If you do believe there has been a cover up, if you believe as we do that the Inquiry is not helping in finding the truth out for the victims, if you believe that the Inquiry should be held outside of Cornwall and that a new Commissioner should be appointed, who has no ties in Cornwall, please sign our petition to give a voice for the victims that can't speak- THE CHILDREN OF CORNWALL. Thank you for your time.
Sincerely,
Jim and Brigette
