Mikey's Law

Mikey's Law is enforced when a parent uses their child/children as a pawn to manipulate or punish the other parent. This is all too common and needs to be stopped!

Such cases often happen before court appointed child support and custody are in place, though unfortunately this behavior can continue for years after. Often times children are coerced and coached to say hurtful or manipulative things to the other parent. They may also be denied visitation; kept from the other parent for an extended amount of time, in person or by telephone.

A parent should not have to call in for a well-fare check by local law enforcement just to know his/her child is still alive. Children should not be used to "one-up" the other parent due to jealousy. There are many ways in which this can occur.

Many harmful affects from this can damage a child.   This kind of parental behavior is unjustifiable and detrimental to any child. It should not be tolerated.  In the end, it is the child that loses and hurts the most.

Any parent that can be proved to have done such action/s should be rightfully punished. That be by jail time, fine, and/or community service, and parenting class.

Children who have been victim to such behavior should be monitored in a way with counseling to insure such parental behavior has not permanently affected the child.

If the behavior continues by the parent, the child should be taken out of his/her custody until further evaluation and/or a longer punishment has occurred.

The pain of a parent being kept from their children is truly the worst pain a parent can suffer. It is also equally painful for the child. Such love for a child should never be played in such way to hurt a child or another human being.

We must give our children a chance to live normal and healthy lives without our own greed, jealousy and vindictiveness getting in the way of the rights of the children involved.
