We the undersigned believe that every Australian child has an equal right to a quality education. The level of funding currently provided for public schools makes equality in education impossible. Private schools, through a mixture of government and private funding, are able to spend one quarter to one third more on each child's education than public schools. This gap in spending has lead to a gap in career prospects, with one third of university offers being made to the twenty percent of high school graduates who attended a private school.
While public schools have traditionally been a matter for the states, we ask that your government offer increased funding to Australian public schools, particularly those in economically disadvantaged areas.
Thank you for your consideration.
