It's Time for a Same-Sex Spin-Off of The Bachelor or The Bachelorette

Since The Bachelor first aired in 2002, the reality TV show has become an international sensation, inspiring several spin-offs in the U.S., including The Bachelorette, as well as dozens of international versions. One of the most recent incarnations, The Bachelor: Vietnam, recently made a big splash in the news.

During a recent episode, two of the female contestants vying for the bachelor's affections shocked viewers when they decided they were actually in love with each other, not the bachelor. They left the rose ceremony together.

That got us thinking, why hasn't The Bachelor or The Bachelorette started a same-sex version of the show yet? We think it's about time. Sign this petition if you agree!

While The Bachelor: Vietnam episode may have just been a ratings gimmick — one of the female contestants ended up going back to the bachelor — the need for a same-sex spin-off still stands. In fact, this wasn't the first time two contestants fell for each other. Two female contestants from The Bachelor: Australia dated in 2016

About 11 million people openly identify as LGBT in the U.S., though the number is probably much higher when you account for those who have not yet come out. And yet LGBT representation in entertainment remains abysmally low. It's high time for that to change.
