Coral reefs are the most biologically productive ecosystem in the world, but also one of the most fragile. If coral is touched by an outside organism incorrectly, the whole polyp is bleached and dies. Tons of marine wildlife make their homes prey on reef-dwelling organisms. These areas must be protected, as they provide great insight into interactions between organisms that cannot be seen anywhere else. Boundaries of protected areas should be marked clearly for speedboats as well as commercial oceanliners and freight ships. It is extremely important that people cannot say they didn't know it was protected or use insufficient warning as an excuse. Even recreational diving should be limited, as ignorant human interaction is the worst kind of interaction in this ecosystem.
